What The Color Of Your Urine Says About Your Health

We often ignore the color changes we notice in the urine, but they actually reveal a lot about the condition of our health.

The urine is one way for the body to eliminate waste from the liver and blood, and it contains urea and uric acid, salt and water.

Its changes might be due to an illness, medications, foods, infections, injuries, etc. The urine from a healthy person has pale yellow or gold, and urochrome is the pigment that gives its color.

Dehydration makes the water look amber, and the insufficient intake of water darkens its color.

Yet, there are also cases when the urine becomes red, blue, dark brown, green, or cloudy white, due to various factors. Yet, remember to always consult your doctor or a specialist if your urine has changed its color.

Here are the most unusual changes in the urine and their meaning:

 Green or blue

The intake of medications like anesthetic propofol or promethazine can trigger this pigment change.

Orange

The urine can turn orange if you take too many B2 medications, UTI drug phenazopyridine or antibiotic isoniazid, but this might also be a sign of liver issues or dehydration.

Red or Pink

The excessive consumption of carrots, beets, rhubarb, and blackberries might be the main cause for it. Yet, it can also result from the use of some strong medications, like rifampin.

Foamy

The urine can become foamy if you suffer from some kidney problems, so this is a sign that you should visit your doctor.

Moreover, if the color changes of the urine are accompanied by side pain, vomiting, or discharge, you should visit your doctor in order to diagnose the problem.
